Richard Wong Memorial
Pui Ying Richard Wong Memorial Chinese School was formerly known as Vancouver Fraserview Chinese School. It was founded by Mr. Richard Wong. Principal Richard Wong always aspired to uphold the principle of promoting Canadian multiculturalism and Chinese heritage and culture. He implemented his vision by establishing the Vancouver Fraserview Chinese School and wholeheartedly nurtured it for the past 30 years until his death in 2013. Continuing with Principal Richard Wong’s legacy, Pui Ying Christian Services Society will be continuing operations of the Chinese School and has renamed it to Pui Ying Richard Wong Memorial Chinese School in his honor.
The school uses textbooks that are designed for non-Chinese speaking students. They are designed to suit the needs of local students. The school offers both Cantonese and Mandarin classes, from kindergarten to Grade 6 levels. To encourage students to speak the language and to enhance oral training, teachers use activity-based and interactive teaching methods in class. Students also participate in activities organized by community organizations that are related to the learning or practice of Chinese language, so as to develop confidence in the usage of the language.
